Facebook took the next step toward honoring its June pledge to train 1 million small business owners in the U.S. on digital skills by 2020 with this week’s debut of career-development site Learn With Facebook.
The social network also revealed that businesses can now use its job listings tool to post open positions to groups, and it detailed updates to the Mentorship tool it initially announced at its Social Good Forum in November 2017.
Learn With Facebook features materials including case studies, insider tips and resources from industry experts, and lesson topics, available free-of-charge, include “Ace Your Interview” and “Manage Your Content Marketing.”
The social network also announced that it is teaming up with Goodwill Community Foundation to develop and curate these training resources for people of all backgrounds and education levels across the U.S.

Facebook said during its third-quarter-2018 earnings call last month that more than 200 million people belong to meaningful groups on the social network, and businesses can now share their job listings in those groups, as well as on their pages and under the Jobs tab.

Finally, Facebook introduced a way for group members to better choose partners within its Mentorship tool.
People in groups can sign up and share information about what they are offering or looking for in a mentorship, and group members can browse a list of available people to find the best matches and reach out to those people.
A Facebook spokesperson said, “We hope this update helps people more easily find the best partner for reaching their goals and allows more groups to offer Mentorship to their members by reducing the work required for administrators to match people.”
Chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said in a Facebook post, “By 2024, there will be more than 1 million computing jobs open in the U.S. Filling these jobs is critical for our economy and our communities—and people looking to support their families and have impact. Today’s announcements are the latest steps we’re taking to help people get the skills and access the professional opportunities they need to thrive.”
And head of policy marketing Fatima Saliu and Mentorship engineering manager Sean O’Reilly said in a Newsroom post, “As people embark on and continue their career journey, our hope is that these free resources can give them the support they need to advance in today’s digital economy.”
